Leafy stalks reach 2-4 feet in height with 1-12 pendant, six-petaled flowers, dappled in colors from green and brown to yellow and purple. Also known as chocolate lily.

Habitats	Oak Woodland, Upland Prairie and Savanna, Mixed Hardwood-Conifer Forest or Woodland
Habitat Notes	Plant bulb on its side to prevent rot.
Phenology	Perennial; flowering April-July
Mature Height	1 - 4 ft.
Shade Preference	Full sun, part shade
Soil Tolerance	Prefers drier, well-drained soils, rocky soils, and can survie in a xeric garden.
Special Uses	Attracts showy insects. Plants may go dormant for 1-2 years following blooming. To ensure good flowering, plant a colony of bulbs.
